Great skin care does not need ten steps
Updated
In short
- A longer routine isn't necessarily a better one. More products can mean more irritation, more cost and less consistency.
- For most people, a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser and daily sunscreen do most of the work.
- UV levels in Dubai are high all year, so sun protection isn't only for summer.
A simple daily routine
Morning
- Gentle cleanserCleans without leaving skin tight
- MoisturiserSuited to your skin, to support the skin barrier
- Broad-spectrum sunscreenSPF 30 or higher, applied generously
Evening
- Gentle cleanserRemoves sweat, sunscreen and makeup
- MoisturiserSuited to your skin, to support the skin barrier
A general example, not a personal plan.
Thinking about Dubai’s climate
Apply enough sunscreen and reapply it when you are outdoors for long periods, sweating or swimming. Time indoors with air conditioning can leave skin feeling dry, while heat and humidity outdoors can make heavier products uncomfortable, so your routine may need small adjustments.
Adding active ingredients
If you add an active ingredient, introduce one at a time, patch test first and increase use slowly. Some ingredients, including retinoids, aren’t recommended during pregnancy, so check first if this applies to you.
Limits
Skin changes slowly, and a routine may take several weeks to show any effect. No routine prevents every concern or suits everyone.
When to see a doctor
It's worth talking to a qualified doctor if:
- A skin problem persists
- A skin problem is getting worse
- You're pregnant and unsure whether an ingredient is suitable
Questions to ask your doctor
- Which basics suit my skin?
- Is an active ingredient worth adding, and how should I introduce it?
- Is anything I'm using unsuitable during pregnancy?
- How long should I give a routine before judging it?
